The United States expanded its pavilion at the Farnborough Airshow by 22 percent this year, with American politicians competing against European rivals to attract investment from aerospace, defence and space companies as the industries expand.
U.S. government agencies and private company exhibitors rose 21 percent from the prior show, with the country now accounting for roughly a third of the entire event.
Nine U.S. senators, several governors and other state and local officials attended. Farnborough International Airshow chief executive Gareth Rogers said the turnout signals how important the event has become to the United States.
Rising global tensions are pushing governments to increase defence spending, while aerospace supply chains are scaling up to clear a backlog of thousands of plane orders from major manufacturers. Growth in space and satellite launches is adding further momentum to the industry.
States including Kansas and Alabama hosted parties in London to court investors, while dozens ran booths at the airshow highlighting low taxes, competitive energy prices and skilled workforces.
The Aerospace Industries Association said the U.S. aerospace and defence sector generated 1 trillion dollars in total business activity last year, supporting more than 2.1 million American jobs, with aerospace salaries running about 40 percent above the national average.
The investment drive comes as the Trump administration weighs fresh aerospace tariffs, though talks have delayed their implementation.
Competition remains strong, with the European Union raising defence spending and Britain unveiling a 600 million pound aerospace support package aimed at doubling the sector’s market value by 2035.
Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger said her state has invested heavily in workforce development and site readiness for aerospace expansion. Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb pointed to the city’s NASA research center and manufacturing base as competitive advantages.
