GS Global has opened a new branch in Houston to strengthen its local sales presence across North America’s energy and infrastructure markets, the trading company said. The branch marks an expansion of steel sales and project business in a region seeing surging investment in energy, power and infrastructure development.
The company had previously run its U.S. operations mainly through its Los Angeles subsidiary. The Houston branch answers rising demand for project-linked steel, giving GS Global a closer footing among key customers and industry players in the region.
Beyond steel imports and sales, the branch will focus on identifying demand and supporting bids for project-based steel orders. GS Global plans to participate in the U.S. energy industry value chain and expand into steel-related areas such as equipment for the energy, chemical and shipbuilding industries, the company said.
GS Global also aims to strengthen collaboration with major Korean steelmakers operating near Houston, including Hyundai Steel and Dongkuk Steel, while building new business ties with local engineering, procurement and construction firms and steel fabricators.
An opening ceremony marked the branch launch, drawing attendance from Consulate General of Korea in Houston Lee Kyung-eun, Jindal Pipe USA President Vikas Chandra, and representatives from Posco, Hyundai Steel, Korea National Oil Corporation and Hanwha Ocean.
A GS Global spokesperson called the Houston branch a strategic investment aimed at expanding direct engagement with U.S. customers and strengthening the company’s sales capabilities, adding that the firm intends to build a foundation for sustainable growth in North America by pursuing new business opportunities across areas including project-based steel sales.
