Background :
Stellantis reported a 10% year-on-year increase in preliminary vehicle shipments for the second quarter, reaching nearly 1.6 million units. Strong demand in North America, the company’s largest market, drove the growth as the automaker continued efforts to improve sales.
Vehicle shipments in North America rose 38% to 445,000 units. The increase came as Stellantis launched new and updated models, including the Ram 1500 V8 pickup, the Ram TRX SRT, the Jeep Grand Wagoneer, the Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Chrysler Pacifica. The company also prepared for its planned summer production shutdown during the quarter.
The performance supports Chief Executive Officer Antonio Filosa’s strategy to revive the business after the company lost customers in recent years because of higher vehicle prices, quality concerns, greater focus on electric vehicles and rising competition from Chinese automakers. Earlier this year, Filosa introduced a €60 billion business plan through 2030, centred on new vehicle launches, brand restructuring and technology partnerships.
In Europe, Stellantis increased shipments by 5% to 762,000 units. The growth reflected stronger industry demand and included about 33,000 vehicles supplied by Chinese partner Leapmotor. Budget models such as the Citroen C3, Citroen C3 Aircross, Opel Frontera and Fiat Panda recorded healthy demand across the region.
Growth in North America and Europe was partly offset by lower shipments in the Middle East and Africa because of regional conflict and weaker demand in Argentina, which affected South American sales.
Stellantis will announce its full second-quarter financial results later in July. Company shares traded largely unchanged following the shipment update.
