Background :
A group led by Jeff Bezos has struck a deal with Fenway Sports Group to become minority owners of Liverpool Football Club, FSG confirmed this week. The deal marks the Amazon founder’s first investment in a sports property. The consortium will acquire roughly one-third of the Premier League club, with the minority transaction valued at about $7.1 billion, according to people familiar with the matter.
As part of the agreement, the investment group has an option to become Liverpool’s majority shareholder within the next year, at a valuation of around $8 billion. The largest contribution to the minority investment, more than $1 billion, comes from K5 Global, the fund where Bezos serves as lead investor.
The consortium, named 1892 Holdings, is led by businessman Amit Bhatia, a former co-owner of Queens Park Rangers. The group also includes K5 Sports and EE Capital, the family office of Elaine and Eduardo Saverin, with Eduardo being a co-founder of Facebook. Bhatia will join Liverpool’s extended board and take up the role of vice chairman. Bezos will not hold a board seat, though Bryan Baum of K5 Sports and Elaine Saverin will.
FSG President Mike Gordon said the club has always been built with a long-term outlook, adding that this approach continues to draw interest from respected investors worldwide, and that the consortium shared the club’s long-term philosophy.
Bezos, whose net worth stands at $272 billion, has previously explored stakes in NFL teams. Liverpool was recently ranked the fourth-most valuable football club globally, worth $6 billion, and has won 20 league titles, most recently in 2025.
