James Kim, chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea, met with new U.S. Ambassador to Korea Michelle Steel to discuss ways to expand trade and investment cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting marked Ambassador Steel’s first official engagement with business leaders since she took office late last month.

Kim and Steel also discussed ways to highlight the importance of the Korea-U.S. alliance and the economic partnership between the two nations. Senior executives from major U.S. companies operating in Korea attended the roundtable as well.

Participants stressed that a predictable business environment, aligned with global standards, remains essential for American companies to continue investing and operating smoothly in Korea, according to Amcham.

Kim praised Steel’s background and her early outreach to the business community. “Ambassador Steel brings a deep understanding of both countries and a strong commitment to advancing their shared interests,” he said. “Her early engagement with business leaders sends a clear and encouraging message about the importance of American companies to the U.S.-Korea economic partnership.”

The meeting comes as American firms continue to play a significant role in Korea’s economy. Amcham represents hundreds of member companies across various sectors. Business leaders at the roundtable used the occasion to reinforce their commitment to the Korean market and called for continued policy stability from both governments.
